Guatemala is a good choice for travelers who look for a unique holiday experience. Home to ancient Mayan sites, rainforests and volcanoes, this Central American country is located south of Mexico. Guatemala City is the capital of this country which features several tourist attractions like the National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology and the stately National Palace of Culture. Antigua Guatemala, popularly known as the Antigua is a beautiful town in this country surrounded by volcanoes worth visiting.  Located west of the capital city, this region features many beautiful Spanish colonial buildings. In fact, there is something to explore or take a picture in every corner of this country.

Once you visit, you will realize that Guatemala is a unique country with plenty of tourist attractions. It is a beautiful and diverse country and you need several months to explore it. You can experience the rich culture and tradition of this country by visiting the Chichicastenango located in the highlands. This town is not only famous for indigenous Maya culture but also for its open-air craft market. If you are interested in the Mayan culture, you must include the Atitlan Lake region in your travel itinerary. You can also include the Santiago Atitlan during your trip to Bulgaria.

Itinerary


Day 01: Arrival Guatemala City - Antigua Guatemala

Upon arrival and transfer to Antigua Guatemala. At afternoon departure from your hotel to visit Antigua Guatemala America’s Colonial Monument, Antigua Guatemala, named so by the beauty and greatness of the colonial buildings. The town is protected by the surrounding eternal guards, the Volcanoes of Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango. Antigua was founded in 1543, as the third capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala and partially destroyed in 1773 by the Santa Marta Earthquakes. Go over cobblestoned streets to visit the Plaza de Armas, Palace of the Captains, the Cathedral, churches, and monasteries. At the end of the tour, return to Hotel for accommodations.

Day 02: Antigua Guatemala - Chichicastenango - Atitlan Lake

Breakfast.  Transfer from your hotel to the Guatemalan Highlands along the Panamerican Highway to Chichicastenango, a quiche Indian town surrounded by hills and mountains that jealously keep the inhabitants’ traditions, as they melt their prehispanic and catholic rituals at the 400 years old church of Santo Tomas, built on the remains of a Mayan Temple. Here, market days, Thursdays and Sundays, acquire great meaning and smoky incense impregnates the atmosphere with mysticism and religiosity. People barter their product and the market explodes with color, tradition, and folklore. At the indicated time, transfer to Panajachel, a village located on the shores of Lake Atitlan. Considered as one of the most beautiful lakes around the world, also three volcanoes Atitlan, Tolimán, and San Pedro are protecting the lake. At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to the Hotel for accommodations.

Day 03: Boat Ride In Santiago Atitlan - Atitlan Lake - Guatemala City

Breakfast. At the indicated time, you will enjoy a morning boat trip to Santiago Atitlán. This village is located on the south part of Lake Atitlan, on the slopes of the Atitlan Volcano. On a very short walking, you will visit the church of Santiago Apostol and then visit the confraternity of Maximón. At the indicated time, transfer from Panajachel to Guatemala City

Day 04: City Tour- Departure

Breakfast.  Departure from your hotel at 09:00 we will pick you up to begin the visit the New Guatemala de la Asuncion, the official name of Guatemala City; during this tour, you will be able to appreciate the avenue of La Reforma, one of the most important of the City. Then continue to the center of Guatemala City. Visit to the “Centro Civico”, “Palacio Nacional”, “Catedral Metropolitana” and central market, where you can find a variety of handcrafts and regional textiles. At indicated time transfer to International Airport to board the flight to your country.
