DAY 01 - ARRIVE IN MUMBAI (STAY AT THE TAJ MAHAL PALACE, MUMBAI)

Mumbai is the fast paced commercial, financial, industrial and celluloid capital of India. Lured by its glamour and the prospects of ’streets paved with gold’, a large number of people from different parts of the country come to settle in this city every year. And Mumbai continues to grow, to absorb and most importantly to prosper. Just when you begin to wonder how you’re ever going to cope with Mumbai, you arrive at Worli and see Haji Ali Mosque standing proudly on a raised walkway in the middle of the sea giving you the feeling that the Gods are there if everything else fails. If you arrive at night, there will be a backdrop of twinkling lights from the skyscrapers that are so much a feature of Mumbai’s skyline. The scenes change as you drive past Chowpatty Beach, ablaze with the lights of stalls selling fruit-juice, ice-cream and snacks to the crowds thronging the beach. By the time you reach Marine Drive, your spirits will be restored and the rush of traffic won’t seem half so daunting as it might have been earlier, and the sedate horse-drawn landau will seem a charming anachronism. Once a tiny island overrun by swaying palm trees, Mumbai used to belong to the native Koli fisher-folk, who still live here in their little villages surrounded by soaring skyscrapers. Portuguese came here in the seventeenth century and dotted the place with several forts, which stand even today. Later Mumbai came under the British rule and eventually became one of the largest ports in the British Empire. Overnight at Hotel.

DAY 02 - IN MUMBAI (B)

After breakfast city tour of Mumbai. Once you are in Mumbai, the list of sites to visit is endless. First of all the twinkling lights from the skyscrapers itself will keep your eyes wide open with excitement and wonder. And to add up to your excitement you have a number of sites to visit that could be teamed up as historical sites, contemporary wonders, archaeological sites, religious sites and natural wonders. The Gateway of India is the main attraction of Mumbai city. Built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary for the Delhi Durbar in the year 1911, this massive historical monument makes a must visit during your Mumbai sightseeing. Moreover, there are sites like the Mani Bhawan or the Gandhi memorial, Prince of Wales Museum, Marine Drive and Juhu that give you the feeling of being in the commercial capital of India. The gardens like the Hanging Garden and the Kamla Nehru Garden will provide you the much needed rest between your sightseeing trips and the Chowpatty gives you the view of one of the most happening beaches of Mumbai. Overnight at Hotel.

DAY 03 - IN MUMBAI (B)

Full day at leisure. Overnight at Hotel.

4

DAY 04 - MUMBAI TO AURANGABAD (STAY AT ITC RAMA INTERNATIONAL, AURANGABAD) (B) 335 Km, 6 hr 41 min

After breakfast depart bu surface to Aurangabad. Aurangabad is situated on the banks of the Kham River. The medieval monuments and cultural heritage, the silk and cotton textiles and its proximity to the famous world heritage sites of Ajanta and Ellora attract a good number of tourists towards it every year. Overnight at Hotel.

5

DAY 05 - EXPLORE THE AJANTA CAVES (B)

After breakfast visit Ajanta Caves. The cave temples of Ajanta are situated about sixty two miles north of Aurangabad .The caves are first mentioned in the writings of the Chinese pilgrim Hiuen Tsang who visited India between A.D 629 and 645. The thirty temples at Ajanta are set into the rocky sides of a crescent shaped gorge in the Inhyadri hills of the Sahyadri ranges. At the head of the gorge is a natural pool fed by a waterfall. Though this pristine spot was chosen to enable the Buddhist monks to meditate undisturbed, it should be noted that all sites of Buddhist excavations were situated close to the main trade routes. Overnight at Hotel.

6

DAY 06 - VISIT ELLORA AND AURANGABAD BEFORE FLYING TO DELHI/MUMBAI (B)

After breakfast visit Ellora. These 34 monasteries and temples, extending over more than 2 km, were dug side by side in the wall of a high basalt cliff, not far from Aurangabad, in Maharashtra. Ellora, with its uninterrupted sequence of monuments dating from A.D. 600 to 1000, brings the civilization of ancient India to life. Not only is the Ellora complex a unique artistic creation and a technological exploit but, with its sanctuaries devoted to Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism, it illustrates the spirit of tolerance that was characteristic of ancient India. Later drop at airport to board connecting flight for your onward destination.

General FAQs

  • How many people will be on my trip?

Good things come in small packages, which is why we keep our group sizes down. This means we’re small enough to remain flexible as we thread our way through communities without intimidating the locals. On most of our trips, you’ll be part of an intimate group of 12-16 people, though our group sizes are on average 10 people. Our Overland trips are in purpose-built vehicles that can carry up to 24 travelers. Group sizes are displayed on each trip’s overview page on our website.
